Create a launcher installation dedicated to one Verity build. Run the matching loader profile once before adding the mod so its folders and configuration are created cleanly.

A crash at launch usually points to a version mismatch, wrong loader, missing dependency, or conflict with another mod. Start with Verity alone, then add other mods back in small groups.

Do not solve a loader error by renaming the file. Read the first meaningful section of the crash report and verify the exact loader, Minecraft version, and Java runtime.

CREATE A CLEAN PROFILE

Make a separate launcher instance for the exact Minecraft and loader combination you selected. Give that instance its own game directory so its mods, configuration, logs, and saves do not mix with an unrelated profile. Launch the loader once with an empty mods folder, close the game normally, and then place the verified Verity JE JAR in that folder. Add only dependencies named on the current project page or reported explicitly by the loader.

Start with conservative memory settings instead of assigning all available RAM. The operating system, launcher, Java runtime, and any local AI service also need memory. If the title screen opens, create a disposable world and confirm basic behavior before moving an existing save or a large collection of mods into the instance. This sequence gives every later error a much smaller set of possible causes.

Treat startup and AI connectivity as two different checkpoints. First prove that Minecraft, the loader, Verity JE, and its local dependencies can reach the main menu and open a test world. Only then configure the Groq-powered setup or the local Ollama option documented by the project. If the game works but conversation does not, changing loader files is unlikely to fix a provider key, model name, endpoint, or local-service problem.

Store credentials only in the location the maintainer documents, and redact them before sharing configuration files, screenshots, or logs. For Ollama, confirm the local service is running and the configured model is available before launching the world. Check microphone access, input device, output device, and language behavior separately from text responses. The project reports broader language support for AI text while noting that speech recognition and speech output were tested only in English.

Look for the first specific missing dependency, incompatible version, mixin failure, or class-loading message; the final exit code is usually less useful. Confirm that the profile is using the intended Java runtime, then compare every file in the mods folder with the loader and Minecraft version. Removing random files can hide the original cause without producing a stable setup.

If Verity JE works alone, reintroduce other mods in small groups until the conflict returns. If it fails alone, rebuild a fresh instance rather than continuing to repair a heavily modified one. For the deprecated NeoForge branch, reproduce the problem without extras before assuming it is a local conflict. Include the exact release, loader build, game version, relevant log section, and repeatable steps when asking the project community for help.
